Strong vs Gainr

Strong is a long-established workout logger: fast, focused, and built for lifters who already know their program. Gainr adds an AI coach that writes and adjusts your week. Which one fits depends on whether you want a logbook or a plan.

Competitor details checked against Strong's own website and App Store listing as of October 2026. Prices are US prices and may vary by region. Gainr is our product, so weigh our perspective accordingly.

Logging: Strong's home turf

Strong does one job and does it quickly. It supports supersets, custom exercises, a warm-up calculator, custom timers, and Siri Shortcuts, and it has a fully featured Apple Watch app that can log workouts with or without your phone. If you run a barbell program like a 5×5 from memory, Strong stays out of your way.

Gainr logs weight, reps, timed sets, and reps in reserve, lets you mark warm-up sets, and shows the plates per side for barbell lifts. It records personal records and charts each exercise. Its Apple Watch app logs sets from your wrist, gives you rest alerts, and shows live heart rate and calories, and watch workouts are saved to Apple Health. Gainr doesn't have data export, which matters to a lot of Strong users.

Planning: where Gainr is different

With Strong, you bring the plan. You write routines and follow them. Gainr's Coach builds each week from your goal, schedule, equipment, and training history, and you can move, swap, or skip sessions or ask the coach to adjust the plan when life gets in the way.

Price

Both cost the same per year in the US: $29.99. Monthly, Strong PRO is $4.99 and Gainr Pro is $3.99. Strong also sells a lifetime license in the App Store, which Gainr doesn't offer.

For free users, Strong limits you to 3 custom routines with unlimited logged workouts. Gainr allows 2 saved custom workouts or programs, unlimited logging and progress charts, and a one-time 14-day Coach preview.
